Dear WTS Members:

Our Annual Conference in Seattle is fast approaching, and we are busy finalizing preparations for our major event of the year.  I hope you will be able to join us for an excellent program in Seattle, May 20-22, 2009.

Why is attendance worth the investment of your valuable time and money? Now more than ever, the connections, networking, and professional development offered by WTS ensure that you remain connected to our industry and the people who matter.  Expand your horizons, network with other professionals, and be part of the unique community that is WTS!  Remember that the early registration deadline is April 20, 2009.

In February, I had the honor to attend three WTS Chapter events.  These events were wonderful examples of how our local chapters are the heart of our organization and serve communities in unique ways.

On February 18, I joined 80 transportation professionals from the South Florida region and delivered a keynote presentation on my experiences at the World Economic Forum in Davos and how broader international and economic trends are influencing the transportation industry.  Our South Florida chapter is a model for diversity, with not less than six countries represented at one table!

The WTS International Board held its February meeting in Tucson, where the local chapter organized a beautiful reception.  Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup personally welcomed us to the city with an enthusiastic overview of the city’s commitment to innovation in transportation.  A special thanks to Tucson Chapter President Natalie Clark and her board for hosting us in their lovely city.

During my trip to Arizona, I also had the honor to deliver remarks at the Phoenix Chapter’s Annual Awards Ceremony on February 21.  This gala event once again highlighted that WTS Phoenix is truly the tie that binds this vibrant community.

Congratulations to WTS Member Kelsey Ahern of Cambridge Systematics, recently chosen as the WTS/PB Fellow for 2009 and will attend the Eno Transportation Foundation’s Leadership Development Conference in Washington, DC this May.

I look forward to seeing you in May.

Sincerely,
Elaine Dezenski
