Dear WTS Members and Friends,
Can you believe that it is already January 2008? I am looking forward to WTS reaching greater heights in advancing women in the transportation industry and know that each and every one of you will do your share by volunteering at the chapter or international levels, donating to the scholarship fund, encouraging people to join, applying for a scholarship, etc.
By now all members should have received their ballots for the 2008-2010 WTS International Board of Directors elections. The voting deadline is February 14th, so please take the time to vote. These leaders will help ensure that we achieve our strategic goals and objectives.
I had a delightful visit with the WTS London Chapter in December. The program included a documentary on the Ladies Bridge which was produced by two women who were at the screening. The Thymes River pilots call the Waterloo Bridge the Ladies Bridge because women helped complete construction when the men went off to war.
We had a wonderful reception at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) annual meeting on Sunday, January 13th that AECOM/DMJM Harris sponsored. Christie Dawson, WTS Reception Chair, and the WTS staff did an amazing job. It was very exciting because WTS and TRB signed a collaborative agreement to work together on increasing members’ access to research information and promoting gender differentiated solutions for issues such as safety. Thanks to the TRB Women’s Issue Committee members for their continued support of WTS.
The conference is fast approaching (only four more months) and Liz Stepp and Jane Hayse (Conference Co-chairs) along with the Atlanta chapter members are very busy finalizing the program and plans. Remember: May 14th-16th and I want to see you there.
We hope that you enjoy this issue of the TranScript.
Sincerely,
Ann L. Koby
WTS International President
